It’s the Questions That Shape Us

In life it seems we too often focus on finding answers when more often than not, it’s the questions that matter most. The right question forces us to pause, reflect, and take a deeper look. It’s these moments of introspection that drive real growth and change. When we ask ourselves difficult questions, we open the door to new possibilities…….

Some time ago I read Reboot, from legendary coach Jerry Colonna. One of the most important questions he asks in the book has stayed with me…..it goes…..

How Are We Complicit in Creating the Conditions We Say We Don’t Want?

It’s not an easy one to face, is it? But it’s so important. How often do we find ourselves stuck in situations we’re not happy with, yet we’re unintentionally contributing to them?

Maybe it’s by avoiding tough conversations. We know something’s off, but we don’t want to rock the boat, so we stay quiet, hoping things will somehow improve. Or we ignore the little warning signs, telling ourselves they’re no big deal—until they become something much bigger.

Sometimes it’s just about staying in our comfort zones, holding onto old ways of doing things, even though deep down we know they’re not working anymore.

I’ve seen this play out in both business and personal life, and I’ve been there myself. It’s uncomfortable to admit, but once we do, it gives us the power to actually change the situation.

So, when you’re ready, take a deep breath and ask yourself: In what ways might I be complicit in creating the conditions you say you don’t want?

It’s such a tough question, but one worth asking if we want to create better outcomes—whether it’s at work, in relationships, or in life.
